Our Organization

Mental Health America of Northeast Georgia has been around since the 1950’s, helping those who suffer from mental illness and their families.

These days, we provide a weekly social club, conduct ongoing community informational programs, and particpate in the recently-created Treatment and Accountability (Mental Health) Court here in Athens.

For more information about the organization, visit our website: www.fightthestigma.com.

  1. I thought that this might be something that you would be interested in. It’s a great cause and helps not only Canadians but everyone who is suffering from a mental illness since Sunnybrook research is internationally recognized and put into use.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Did you know that, in Canada:

Nearly one in three people will be affected by a mental illness in their lifetime?
Almost 46% think people use the term mental illness as an excuse for bad behaviour?
One in four are fearful of being around those who suffer from serious mental illness?

Help Sunnybrook Foundation and Presenting Partner, Manulife Financial confront the stigma of mental illness and raise funds to support mental health research and care.

Let’s Face This – Confront the Stigma of Mental Illness is an innovative grassroots web campaign designed to raise much-needed funds and awareness in support of mental health treatment and research.

    Why is it important?

Despite the prevalence and impact mental illness can have on people’s lives and the lives of their loved ones, in many cases it goes undiagnosed and untreated.

Why? Because there is a persistent stigma surrounding mental illness which can leave individuals too ashamed to seek help; too embarrassed to confide in a loved one, and left feeling alone and helpless.

What Can You Do To Help?

We invite you to visit the website – letsfacethis.ca – and post a photo and message on the “Tree of Support”. With each new photo added, the “tree” will grow, symbolizing growing awareness, education, fundraising and hope for those suffering from mental illness.

Let’s Face This reminds us that mental illnesses, like depression and anxiety, are not the result of personality flaws or character weakness, but, like other illnesses, are biological in nature. And like other medical conditions, respond to treatment and care.

I invite you to join me and countless others confront the stigma of mental illness.

Let’s Face This together and confront the stigma of mental illness.

  2. Hey! We met briefly at the Holiday Benevolence Market. I want to come to one of your meetings soon. Keep up the good work!

  3. Hello,

My name is Amber and I have set out to raise awareness on the topic of mental illness. I have listed links to my website, blog and news article below. I am contacting you because I hope to present my exhibit /presentation to college students. My brother experienced his first psychotic break during his last semester at college. I hope to use my exhibit as an tool to educate students about mental illness and to reduce stigma.

I have received countless testimonials (a few are on my website-see link below) from people who have seen the exhibit. You can see and hear the exhibit at the first link below. Be sure to also view my poster page. I think these are a wonderful way to engage students in a discussion about stigma. I am very passionate about raising awareness about mental illness.

In the future, I plan to complete a thought provoking documentary about mental illness and stigma. I also would like to get involved with creating national campaigns for this cause and an anti-stigma, educational program for younger students. I am an creative/art director with an ad agency so I would like to put my skills to good use. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
