Putting on a Show? UNFORGIVEN does it!

Every band that played our recent Blues benefit was good. I’m not just saying that. Not a single band proved unworthy of the stage.
Unforgiven impressed me. They were a great show band. The vocalist for the group must be close to my age (50), but he had the energy of a [...]

The Brothers Marler kick ass!

I love Americana. That’s the current label for music that is a little folk, a little rock, a little country and all American.
The Brothers Marler were our first act on Saturday, May 16, for our benefit at Little Kings Shuffle Club in Athens. They were great. The intensity of the brothers’ vocals [...]

Chris Moore, Blues Performer

Ten bands agreed to take part in our BLUES TO FIGHT THE BLUES event last weekend at Little Kings’ Shuffle Club. This was to be a new fundraiser for our organization.
We had a band drop out due to a member’s being out of town. The guys down at Old Guard Graphics hooked us [...]

Social Club

For many years, Mental Health America of Northeast Georgia (and its predecessor organizations) has sponsored a Social Club.
The Board of Directors voted in April to discontinue this sponsorship.
Social Club Coordinator Jim Parker has run the club for 28 years. We salute him for his service to the club members and to the community.

Cornhole Tournament May 16

In case you haven’t heard, we will be having a CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT on May 16 at Little Kings Shuffle Club in Downtown Athens GA.
Don’t know the game? Check this out: http://www.cornholethegame.com/
I was introduced to it last year, I think, by some friends from Indiana.  It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s addictive.
For my friends, they can drink [...]

Need a Speaker in the Athens (Georgia) Area?

Mondays are not usually so busy.
Today started with a presentation to a class at Athens Technical College.  It was a great group.
I discussed the three tasks of MHANEGA: education, service and advocacy.  The students-there were about 30-were attentive and asked great questions.
They seemed particularly aware of the need to reduce the stigma of mental illness [...]

MHANEGA Releases “What to do in a psychiatric crisis” Booklet

Last Friday, 20 February, we held a ceremony at the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse to unveil the booklet “What to do in a psychiatric crisis in Athens, Georgia.”  It had taken about a year to put the booklet together.
The booklet includes information on Georgia law regarding both voluntary and involuntary commitment.  It provides specific information about [...]

We will also install new Board members at that meeting.  If you would like to be considered for a slot on the Board, please contact me at director@fightthestigma.com.  If possible, include your [...]

Thank you, Athens Art & Frame

One of our supporters for the Mental Health Benefit this year was Athens Art & Frame.  They’ve been on board for several years, and we appreciate them.
The owners, Bruce and Pam Barker, agreed to accept donated art at their four locations.  Their employees helped us manage the many pieces that came in as the date [...]
